This fabric really is so very cute.  This is the second zipper pouch I've made using this Japanese cotton/linen blend fabric and both turned out adorable.  The first one is sold but the one pictured here is available.

Made some more zipper pouches...

This size/shape is one of my favorites to make and that's probably because I have one of these and I adore it!  It lives in my bathroom and holds my manicure tools, tweezers and some other small items.  It's on the counter in a basket so I see it all the time and it just makes me happy to look at it because it's beautiful and useful--always the best combination.

This long, skinny pouch is also great for pens & erasers, crochet hooks, or small sewing tools like awls, pens, chalk markers, seam gauges, needle packages or containers, etc.

Outback Wife Elaine Barkcloth Messenger Bag

My most recent sewing project finish is a Messenger Bag in a beautiful blue barkcloth fabric called Elaine. This fabric is from the Outback Wife collection by Gertrude Made for Ella Blue.

This bag has three mods that I'll go over in more detail below.  But here are the main ways it differs from the pattern:

1. Magnetic Snaps
2. Zipper Pocket
3. Hanging Loop

There isn't a pattern for this pouch, but this pattern shows how to make a similar pouch.

This is 8.25" wide x 4" high and has a 7" zipper opening.

The patchwork is pieced to flannel.  The back side is lightweight denim.  It's lined in a pink stripe print fabric from Riley Blake.  The lining fabric is lightly quilted to canvas.

My, oh my, this fabric is so beautiful!  I can't bear to let any scrap go unsewn, so here is another small zipper pouch in this gorgeous barkcloth fabric called Elaine from the Outback Wife collection by Gertrude Made for Ella Blue.  This pouch has sold, but check this section to see if there is another available in this fabric. 

This fabric has been out for a bit now, and pickings are getting slim for where to find it online, but here are a couple places where it is currently still in stock:

The zip pull is like this one, but the shorter version mentioned in the post (4" high fabric).  It does get a little harder making it shorter, but it's still totally doable and for this small pouch, it seemed like the right choice.
