Beach Huts - Embroidery Textile Art Canvas

One of the things I'd like to explore more this year is textile art. On my whiteboard I've had "paint" on my list of things to do, but I don't have a lot of experience with painting. I'm not very good at it and don't know the techiques, and ultimately just can't stand the mess of the paints. Cleaning paint brushes sounds like some sort of terrible punishment to me.
So naturally I'm gravitating towards fabric as an art medium and have started to play around with it some. In the meantime, I will start showing off some interesting pieces of textile art here for us all to enjoy and maybe even collect!
This first piece is by Gillian Bates and is titled "Beach Huts". It was created using: "Freehand machine embroidery on white cotton drill fabric using an eclectic mix of reclaimed, recycled and new fabrics."
If you've tried freehand machine embroidering you know it really takes skill and vision to create a scene as charming and lovely as these huts on a sandy beach.
"Beach Huts" is a small piece in an affordable price range and it is ready to hang. I can't tell you how much I love things that are ready to hang. I've bought prints in the past and never got around to framing them. From here on out, I'm only purchasing wall art that is ready to hang.
You can see more textile art from Gillian Bates in her etsy shop.
