Wow, it's been a while since there has been a sample sale item available, so let me correct that today by offering beautiful "Mending Kit" pouch. Sold - Thanks!
This pouch was made with my Mending Kit pattern, a pretty floral print from Dear Stella, and a lovely cotton/linen chambray fabric with lots of white flecks. The only change from the pattern is using buttons instead of the flap. The twine is simply tied onto the back of one of the buttons since it can't be sewn on (it will fray).
If you aren't familiar with the Mending Kit pattern, it's basically a smaller version of the Idea Pouch with an extra pouch/pin keep at the top of the flap. The book shown in the photo below inspired me to make the Idea Pouch smaller and then I taught this as a sewing class and wanted a specific pattern for it to keep things pretty straightforward for the people taking the class.
So long story short, you can scale down the Idea Pouch to make something like this or you can order the pattern with the pieces already sized + the extra pocket piece.
In the photo above it's shown with a few notions to help give you and idea of the size. The needles and seam ripper can be purchased at their respective links, or you other favorite sewing retailers. Both are great to have and pretty widely available. The embroidery scissors are classic stork scissors. I've had mine since childhood and other than some inherited vintage things, they are my oldest sewing tool and I still use them to this day! Not a lot of embroidering is happening around here, but they are excellent for trimming the stray threads at the end of a project.
I also found one more copy of the book that inspired this pattern. These books have been unavailable for quite some time, but I think they recently became available again, so maybe I'll more soon.
