Here we go with the first mod for the Basket Bags pattern and if you want to wrangle a bunch of your tools into one handy bag, you will like this one. This is my tool bag and I've been using it for a few weeks now and love it!
Inside are a few pairs of scissors, chalk, seam gauges, pens, and a bunch of other things that I use pretty frequently. On top there you can see the very first Rose Pincushion Cuff I ever made! Yep, I still have it years later and use it all the time.
This tool bag is working out great because it keeps me from spreading my tools out all over the place on my work area--which is already not big enough (not sure it ever could be, really).
Because I have limited space and a lot of things I sew are small, my ironing board is another place where I do quite a bit of cutting and prepping. It's nice to just grab the bag and move my tools from the official cutting table to the ironing board.
The finish bag is shallow, but the gusset corners make it quite stable and it will plop down just about anywhere without falling over and spilling your stuff out. Here is sits on a pile of fabric:
To make this shallow Basket Bag here is what you do:
- Cut the bag body pieces 16" wide x 6.5" high.
- Using the Size 2 handle piece, make marks 1.25" below the end you place on the fold. Cut the handle pieces using the marks at 1.25" as the new cut on fold end.
- In step 6.d, the marks are made at 5".
That's it!
