The back side and the lining are the same Robert Kaufman Railroad Denim fabric from the previous post.

Sample Sale - Zip Pouch with Pull (Sold)

The next sample (sold out - thank you!) is a zipper pouch made from perhaps my favorite fabric from Robert Kaufman's Railroad Denim collection.  These fabrics aren't named, but this is CXC-14112-62.  There isn't a pattern for this pouch, but this is template #12 from this document of zipper pouch pattern pieces.

You might also recognize this pouch from this blog post about making the zip pull.

The pouch also has a coordinating fabric patch on the front.  Guess how that is made?  The same way as the zip pull, which is the same basic idea as the Cord Keepers.  So many, many uses for making things this way!  This is the fabric used for the pull and patch.

The back side is plain:

This pouch is very padded.  I think it has two layers of batting on each side like the Patchwork Glasses Case pattern.  But the details are slightly hazy because the pouch was sewn long before making the pull! 

The lining is two prints pieced together:

Sample Sale - Padded Glasses Case (Sold)

Here's another zipper pouch that was made while writing the Patchwork Glasses Case pattern and today it is available as a sample.  Sold - thanks!

This was my first try at Size 2 and it is a little shorter than the final version in the pattern.  

It does fit these readers that are 5-3/8" at the temples.  My sunglasses with a width of 5.5" at the temples work ok, but it's getting to be a tight fit. 

The lining is something from Moda (I think...), the exterior front fabric is Spring Bouquet from Moda and the back side is Essex Yarn Dyed Homespun--another very nice fabric from Robert Kaufman.

Sample Sale - Patchwork Glasses Case (Sold)

Next up for the sample sale is the pouch made while writing the instructions for Size 2 in the Patchwork Glasses Case pattern. (Sold)

The back is this fabric from Robert Kaufman.  Using a stripe for the back (or lining) makes the quilting go faster!

Sample Sale - Double Zip Pouch (Sold)

I pulled out a small stack of things and will be posting them as samples this week.  First up is this pouch with two zippered compartments.  Sold - thanks!

This was one of the first bags I made while writing the Double Zip Tool Pouches sewing pattern.  It is closest to size 2 in the pattern.

Both sections are lined in a turquoise print with tiny bees from Tula Pink. 

The exterior fabric is a blue and white cotton canvas.

Matching Stripes for Quilt Binding

It's been a while since I've made quilt binding, but here's some now! 

While joining the strips together I took some photos to show you an easy way to match stripes on the bias.

The first step is to fold one end on the bias with the edge of one stripe lined up with the edge of the fabric strip.  Press it so you have a crisp fold.  Then add a piece of Wonder Tape at least 1/2" from the fold so it will be cut off when you trim away the excess fabric. 

Remove the Wonder Tape backing, match up the stripes and finger press the tape to hold the pieces together.

Carefully open the folded back fabric and then pin at the bottom.  Then just stitch directly on the fold and you'll have pretty darn close to perfectly matched stripes sewn together on the bias!
