Fabric Key Ring Charms

Before I started making these zip pulls, I started a little larger and made some fabric key ring charms using the same technique. 

These turned out cute and helped me see it was going to be possible, and also not all that difficult, to sew these at the even smaller zip pull size.

Since they turned out so swell, they can now be found in the finished goods section of my etsy shop or click the photos in this post to go to that specific charm.

If you want to make your own, read the info in this blog post and below are the measurements for making  these in this size: 2" high x 1.25" wide (51mm x 32mm).  For these, I wanted them a bit firmer, so they also have a layer of fleece in the center. 

Add the fleece after completing step #4.e in the Cord Keepers pattern or after step #9.e in the Intro to Improv Zip Pouches pattern.  Open up the folds, tuck in the fleece piece, refold the fabric, and then give it a final press to activate the fleece adhesive.

(1) Fabric: 4.5" high x 2.5" wide (114mm x 64mm)

(2) Interfacing: 3.75" high x 1.2" wide (95mm x 31mm)

Pellon SF101 Woven Cotton Fusible Interfacing

Just a quick note to let you know I have some Pellon SF101 is available here.  This is my go to interfacing and is what I use in all my accessory projects.

Because this isn't something I'll have available all the time, and other shops offer it in varying quantities and at a better price than I can offer, below are some etsy shops that also carry this interfacing. 

• A 10-yard bolt can be found here at Bayside Fabrics.  This is a great price and if you are sewing pretty regularly, it won't take long to go through 10-yards.
• Bayside Fabrics also has this interfacing by the yard. 
• A 25-yard bolt can be found at Lakeview Fabrics. This is a lot of interfacing, but imagine how great it will be to not run out of interfacing anytime soon!
• Sew Perfectly Vintage has this interfacing by the yard (and it's currently on sale at a nice price!).
• If you are in the UK or that side of the world and don't want to wait for a package from the US or CA, Vilene G700 is the equivalent of Pellon SF101 and is available here at Temple Gifts.

Elaine Barkcloth from the Outback Wife Collection

Today I added these pieces of this gorgeous barkcloth fabric to my etsy shop.  This fabric is called Elaine and it's from the Outback Wife collection by Gertrude Made for Ella Blue Fabrics, and wow, it is pretty! 

These pieces have been hanging out in my stash and the plan was to stitch them up into a bunch of small zipper pouches. Which is a lovely idea, but it's probably not going to happen anytime soon.  I did make two pouches out of it, so I got my zipper pouch sewing fix.

The pouch above is the first one and it's sold.  This is just a simple zipper pouch with rounded off corners.  The lining is quilting cotton stitched to canvas interlining, which gives it some weight without being puffy.

The rounded corners and the canvas interlining are both techniques used in the Double Zip Pouches pattern and they'll likely turn up again in another pattern because they work well!

This second pouch is a long and skinny pouch and it's #13 in this document with zipper pouch pattern pieces (no instructions). There are three of these pouches with the zipper pull in the previous blog post.  Each is a different fabric--one in this print, one in a vintage home dec fabric, and one in a Japanese cotton.
