Here's a new kind of zip pull and it's pretty awesome! There isn't a pattern for this, but if you have the Cord Keepers pattern or the Intro to Improv Zip Pouches pattern you can make this cute pull.
This is most like the Cord Keepers and is simply a smaller version of them and with an eyelet instead of a snap. It's also a shorter version of zip pull in the Intro to Improv Zip Pouches pattern. So either pattern will do as far as instructions for how to make the fabric into this shape.
The measurements for the pieces are at the bottom of this post. The finished pulls are 2" high x 0.75" wide. Here are a few other details for things you might be wondering about:
• You can also make the fabric piece even shorter--I made one with a 4" piece of fabric and it wasn't a problem. If you go smaller, it is going to get much more challenging. Make the interfacing shorter too.
• Use Pellon SF101 interfacing or the equivalent. You don't want any interfacing in the folds or seams, so the interfacing pieces should be NO LARGER than the measurements down below.
• Use two layers of interfacing for quilting cotton fabric, or just one for heavier fabrics. One layer of interfacing for quilting cotton is also fine, but the pull is firmer with the extra piece.
• The eyelets I'm using a #104 eyelets, which are 5/32" (3.96mm) eyelets. Larger eyelets can also be used, but don't go any larger than 1/2" diameter flange eyelets. I use these Dritz pliers to install the eyelets. They are the same pliers I use for my favorite size 24 Snap Source long-prong snaps.
• Colored eyelets are cool, but the color does come off on the back side when you squeeze the two pieces together. The split ring can also scratch them.
• Another option for the eyelets is to embroider them instead of using hardware. This tutorial shows how to hand stitch eyelets and also goes over how to install metal eyelets. This tutorial has instructions for making the blanket stitch on either the inner or outer rim of the hole.
• A final word about eyelets...they even come in shapes these days. Check out these adorable flower shaped eyelets!
• The split ring has an internal diameter of 5/8" (16mm). You can use smaller split rings, but they are hard to attach to the pull and it's going to be a wrestling match if you go smaller than 5/8". Some of you are probably dexterous and determined enough to make it happen, but everyone else, you've been warned.
• Split rings are widely available at hardware stores or anywhere that cuts keys. You can also find them on etsy.
• An alternative to the split ring would be a jump ring. I prefer the split rings because I'm not great with squeezing jump rings closed without destroying them! But there are also tools to help close jump rings, and if you have these tools, feel free to use a jump ring instead.

• Fabric: 4.5" high x 1.5" wide (114mm x 38mm)
• Interfacing: 3.75" high x 0.75" wide (95mm x 19mm)
