Here's a project that has been done for a week or two, but I haven't gotten around to talking about it yet. This pouch was made using the Zip Pocket Pouch Wristlet pattern, but reduced to 88% of the original size.
The size in the pattern will work for many phones, with some room left for a few smaller items, or it's a nice size for some of the larger phones. But I wanted to try it out in a smaller size to make it more of a custom fit for carrying just a phone and some cards in the zipper pocket.
To decide on the size, I measured my phone and then added 1" to the height. It's important to add some extra because the depth of the phone from front to back will take up some room, so if you want to try this too, make sure to add about 1" so your phone fits!
Before I mention how to do the math, keep in mind if you go smaller than 88% the zipper pocket might end up too small to hold cards. It would be alright for change or other very tiny things, but my personal preference is for this pocket to be able to hold credit/debit/business cards.
Here's how to do the math:
Decide on a finished size and divide that measurement by the finished size in the pattern. Here I'm considering the width of the finished pouch against the height of the phone. For this one, I wanted it to be 5.5" wide, so I divided 6.25 by 5.5 = 0.88. This is the scale to print the pattern pieces. Add this number to the "scaling" box in your print properties and print it out.
The other measurement is going to be whatever it's going to be, but you can check it before proceeding to sew by multiplying the measurement in the pattern by the scale. In this case that is 4.25 x .88 = 3.74.
