This pouch is made from a vintage fabric I bought on etsy a few years back.
It's basically the same idea as these pouches, but it isn't one of the specific sizes in the pattern, and it also has an extra piece along the bottom. This something I'd never tried before, and it turns out great. This bag sits up perfectly flat and is very steady.

When I had my hair cut recently, the stylist had a small zippered bag with a contrast bottom. Of course, I asked if I could take a closer look at how it was made, and could see it was an additional piece that spanned the bottom seam.
So I decided to give it a try and it went ok. I didn't measure it accurately, so at the end I had to make the box corners larger. They need to just a tiny bit beyond the edges of this fabric piece and I didn't get it right the first time. But I got it worked out.
Here's the basic idea for how I made this:
- Cut a piece of fabric that will fit between the box bottom corners + some for allowance.
- Press the allowance to the WS.
- Cut a piece of fleece to fit inside and fuse it to the fabric.
- Sew the bottom exterior seam and then stitch the extra piece of fabric over the center seam.
- Quilt bottom. I wanted the quilting to show, so I used red Jeans Stitch thread on this pouch.
Then you have to attach the pieces to the zipper in a different order. If you are proficient with sewing these, you'll be able to figure this out. This part felt very foreign to me and I did have to think about how it was going to work. I also had a moment where I wondered: "Is this going to work?".

The finished pouch is available in my etsy shop here.
