Today this cute little wristlet is available for someone to take home as a sample. Sold - Thanks!
This is the small size Pintuck Wristlet, but scaled down to 75% of the original size. This one is about 6.75" wide x 4.25" high
The fabrics used for this bag are Anna Maria Horner's Overachiever in Charcoal and one of Robert Kaufman's Railroad Denims.
I've made a few of these wristlets at smaller sizes, and do deviate from the pattern instructions in a few places. So here are the changes I made for this one:
- Printed small pattern pieces at 75%. This is done in the print properties box that shows the "scale".
- Applied fleece A pieces directly to the fabric. In the pattern, the fleeces pieces are applied to scrap fabric. Which I love! It elimates the wrinkle problem that often comes with fusible fleece and it also adds another layer to the bag to give it more structure. Because these are smaller, I just didn't think the extra layer was needed. I did apply the fleece to a piece of muslin for the flap. The flap is really where any wrinkling would show.
- Made the strap pieces 0.25" thinner. I like my straps to be in scale with the bag and not visually dominate, so I cut the pieces 0.25" - 0.5" thinner for these smaller bags.
- Used the large size pocket at 75%. At some point, I printed this pattern at a few scaled down sizes, so the pieces are all in my file folder. The large size pocket scaled down to 75% was the first smaller pocket piece I came across, and it fit, so I used it.
- Skipped the pintucks. I have very little of this fabric (tucks use a few extra inches of fabric), and since it's lovely on its own, I skipped the tucks. In the pattern, these are made before cutting the B piece, so no real modifications are needed.
- Moved the snaps. When scaling this bag down, the snaps generally need to be moved up because printing the pieces smaller moves the snap guide marks too close to the edge of the fabric. My general guideline is the snaps should be centered 1.25" from the edge of the fabric. This gives enough room for a 14mm or 18mm snap with a 3/8" allowance + room for topstitching.
The inside is a green polka dot print:
