Patchwork
This patchwork piece will become a pouch today. I've made a bunch of patchwork pieces now, so sometimes there will be things to share about the process.
This piece started with the vintage rose print. It includes red, pink, green, and black. That seemed like enough colors for me to stick to a color scheme. I was sort of correct.
The pieces in the center got me off to a good start, but after those I had to start reaching. So the yellow piece was added because it has both pink and green from the original color scheme.
Then I added another pink (the small floral above the pink stripe). My first choice would be to not have the two pinks next to each other. Having some color contrast between the individual pieces will help keep the patchwork pattern distinct. But by this time longer pieces where needed, which meant my choices became more limited.
This section will also be on the back of the pouch and not as obvious as the front, so some of my guidelines get tossed out the window.
Next to the red floral print along the right, there is a blue striped fabric. I aim to get some stripes in each piece, so even though it is outside my color scheme I wanted it in there for some print variety. Without the stripes my pieces can end up heavy on the polka dots. That's also ok (because there are no right/wrong ways for this!)--I just like to get some print variety in there when possible.
By the time the final two pieces were added I had to select from what was available in longer pieces. You might also notice this is where the log cabin pattern ends. This can happen, especially with pieces more rectangular in shape. So I'm just making it work by adding some strips of fabric to cover my foundation.
Ok, I'll be back with a finished pouch!
