More WIP

I'm getting close to finishing several projects, but it will be another week or two before I can complete all of them. 

The final flower of this small embroidery piece is done: 

Now I need to fill it in with some leaves.  The original plan was to cover all the canvas within the circle, but it is probably not going to happen.

On Saturday afternoon the baby quilt blocks were stitched into a completed quilt top:

The shower is this coming weekend, and the blocks were laid out on my work table and preventing any other work, so I was motivated to get the top done.  Now on to the backing and binding! 

Some more patchwork pieces are in the works.  This one will be a pouch eventually:

But first, I need more interfacing.  One nice thing about the patchwork is it has cut down on my interfacing use, but I still go through quite a bit.

WIP - Baby Quilt

Next weekend I have a baby shower to attend, so on Thursday I realized it was time to get started making a quilt.

There have been times where despite my good sewing intentions I've ended up at the store buying a last minute gift for someone. 

But babies and handmade quilts are so perfect together--I'm determined to get this finished and do it without stressing myself out! 

As of this morning 2/3s of the blocks are stitched together. There are (72) 4.5" blocks [8 columns x 9 rows].  

Today I'll finish up the top and then it will have to be set aside for a few days, but I can quilt it one night later next week and then bind it another. 

Patchwork Zip Pouch

Here's a sweet little patchwork pouch I finished up yesterday. 

The body for this pouch was made using the small size A pattern piece from the Zip Pouches pattern. 

The patchwork was foundation pieced on scrap fabric and Quilters Dream "Request" weight batting.  This is my favorite batting for making a small patchwork pouch.  Warm and Natural cotton batting is my other preferred cotton batting, but it can get a bit thick for something this size. 

I added a nickel split ring along the side.  Maybe I'll have more of these soon (nickel is sold out).  In the meantime, there is one gold set left.  

The zip pull is a simple wooden bead on hemp twine.  This has become my favorite zip pull.  The beads look nice, are inexpensive, and are widely available.  Look for beads and twine on etsy.  There are tons and tons of options for both. 

The zipper is a "ciel" color Coats & Clark All Purpose Polyester zipper.  I was not familiar with this word/color, so I had to look it up.  Apparently ciel is the French word for sky.

Something special is happening next week, so this little pouch might turn up here again soon! 

Patchwork Puff

This is a 3.5" diameter piece of patchwork hanging from a piece of hemp twine.

It was made using the same basic concept as the coasters, but I've pieced this on flannel and stuffed it with batting. 

It is for or hanging on the wall and enjoying looking at the fabrics. :0]

Embroidery Progress

Some progress has been made on this project.  I'm getting even more excited about it now.  This weekend I'll try to finish up the other flowers. 

Blue Patchwork Pieces

Today I'm making some more patchwork pieces.

These are for a zip pouch, and I'm going to stick to the blue color scheme on both sides. 

It feels SO good to use up scraps of my favorite fabrics, as well as some of my "what was I thinking when I bought this...???" collection.

This is a bright orange fabric with irregular dots and the wrong side is facing out.  This print is fine in small doses, but I have almost 2 yards. 

Since the color is pretty intense I've used it with the right side facing the batting/wrong side of the patchwork. Then I can still use a lighter color fabric for my lining and this bright orange won't be as likely to show through.
