I have this bag strap turning tool that kinda-sorta works, but mostly it is more frustrating than just slowly pushing and pulling the fabric through by hand. The basic idea is a latch hook on the end of a long skinny piece of metal. But to grasp the fabric you have to make a hole in the fabric (which sort of bugs me) and about half the time the fabric comes out of the hook mid-turn anyway. So I decided to try using a crochet hook to turn straps. That worked for turning a really short piece, but didn't work on long straps.
But while I was fooling around with this hook experiment, I discovered that a crochet hook works GREAT for opening seams and pushing them out neatly! Usually I use my scissors, but the sharp tip can sometimes damage the seam and doesn't exactly guide smoothly over the seam. The crochet hook is really light and easy to handle, and the slightly pointed tip is perfect for gently opening the seams.
